Our Story

Select Machine & Tool is a locally owned and operated job shop - we supply parts at specification for a wide variety of customers and end purposes.

We were founded in 1963, and were based in Mantua, NJ until we moved to Gloucester City in 1989.

When long-time owner Don Pye retired in 2005, we were bought by the Shop Supervisor, Jay Brad. Under Jay’s vision, we expanded our purview to include major subcontracts and international connections. By 2008, business had grown so much that we moved to our current 5100 sqft facility in Mt. Ephraim.

In 2017, Select gained a sister company, Northeast Medical Systems & Design, with whom we work in tandem to produce quality hospital equipment sold internationally.

When COVID-19 struck in 2020, we were forced to drastically slow production, but stayed open in order to fabricate parts for urgently-needed ventilators and medicine manufacturing. Tragically, despite taking the precautions necessary at the time, our staff was not spared from the toll of the pandemic.

CFO Peg Brad took on the mantle of Select Machine & Tool’s CEO in 2021. Under her leadership, our team navigated the tenuous late-pandemic economy, helping customers across the globe weather supply shortages amidst unexpected demand.

Our Mission

Select Machine & Tool is dedicated to providing superior precision parts at competitive cost to any customer who needs them. More than that, we strive to work alongside of our customers, bringing our machinists’ experience to the table in order to best meet our customers’ needs.

But there’s more to manufacturing than parts.

We pride ourselves on staying on top of modern manufacturing innovations, tempering our approach with the understanding that the industry evolves. Newer processes such as multiaxis machining and additive manufacturing can be directly incorporated alongside of traditional 2-3 axis and subtractive methods to create new efficient, effective results.

But that knowledge is pointless without people to use it. This is why Select has a long history of accepting and training students - historically, high schoolers and young adults interested in vocation, but more recently, engineering students seeking to better understand the manufacturing process - as a welcome part of our team. Likewise, our employment structure is designed to equip all of our staff with the math skills, conceptual knowledge, and practical experience necessary for training up a new generation of skilled workers.
